My Therapy Specialties
-
Long term trauma is most common for people who were abused, neglected or had extreme experiences during childhood. When we work with complex trauma, we work gently and at your pace. The goal is for your mind and body to integrate old memories, release tension and most importantly, find some relief.
-
Grief is the natural emotional, physical and spiritual response to loss. Losing loved ones is a profound change. Through therapy, grief can change and soften over time.
-
Therapy with a focus on feeling, sensation and pain in the body. Somatic therapy is often utilized for trauma and attachment work (but can be useful for many types of distress). I personally utilize Sensorimotor Psychotherapy as my somatic modality.
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an approach that works with feelings and memories that are stuck in our nervous system. EMDR is used for trauma, difficult childhood memories or recent experiences of hurt.
About Me
Alex Uhlmann, LMFT
I became a therapist because I naturally gravitate toward understanding and supporting others in times of pain. Throughout my lifetime, the practice and science of therapy has evolved beyond traditional talk therapy, leading to advances that target not only the brain (EMDR) but also the body (somatic therapy). While the world can often be scary and challenging, I find joy in our ability, as humans, to heal, change and seek what is most important to us.
How do we start therapy?
1.
Free Consultation
We start with a short call to talk about what brings you in and what you are hoping for.
2.
Initial Session
We spend time understanding what you have been living with and I work with you to develop a treatment plan for therapy together.
3.
Ongoing Therapy
In each session we work with your nervous system and your mind to explore what it is like to be you and what you hope to change.
